Noticing the usual and familiar logo design in the series, I immediately rushed to look for information about the release dates and the ability to “feel” at least a raw version of the game. I, of course, have already missed alpha testing, but I managed to. And a few days ago I received the coveted key, giving the opportunity to play Shootmania Storm Beta 1 for a month.3C.

Interest in the shooter of this kind was fueled not only by the trailer and reputation of developing companies, but also by my personal love for Nadeo. After all, I still be happy to shift the time in Trackmania Nations Forever, and at one time I virtually spent hours at the wheel of a racing car, protecting the honor of his country in international top. It is worth mentioning that this project is developed not only by the “French racing giant” and “thunderstorm of the sailing regatt” Nadeo, but with the support of the company that gave us such hits as: Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and many others. Yes, this is Ubisoft, part of which was Nadeo in 2009, which undoubtedly gave a huge impetus to the development of Questmania – a role -playing game that will be released this year like Shootmania, which will be discussed further.

Having received the key, I immediately downloaded and installed the Maniaplanet service I proposed to me, which pleasantly pleased with the usual Trackmania series with an interface and atmospheric accompanying music in the menu. I would like to add that the service allows us to communicate with other players on the social network, as well as always keep abreast of new and future events, which is useful and by no means superfluous innovation.

Having finished the registration and adjustment of simple and convenient settings, the player can safely join the battle by choosing the server that suits him in the list of regions and countries, which allows you to try his hand and find the right team both in the ranks of compatriots and among representatives of other countries.

Having looked through the official trailer several times, I was ready for the high -speed atmosphere of the fights morally, but, as it turned out, not as well as I would like. Having received a brief briefing while loading the location, accelerating the boots, a shield and a certain energy weapon, I was abandoned on the battlefield and was almost immediately “sprayed” in the air. It is worth noting that the game is originally positioned as an arena for cyberport competitions and the player’s success depends on its “skille”. And now in order.

The player does not have the indicators of life, cartridges and a reserve of strength (Stamina) familiar to us. Instead, we see the shield indicator divided in two (in some cases into three parts), several strips of weapon energy and a strip of running in Sprint mode. It is also divided into several types and weapons, which is always attached to the player’s hand, in the likeness of the repulsors of an iron person. We are provided with a four-shot plasma-gun, which destroys any player from two hits into any part of the costume, a powerful single-shot mini-tour that shoots lightning and in its properties very much resembles a well-known “rail” from the world of Quake. There is also a grenade launcher, if I may name it that releases small, slowly flying balls that instantly explode when contacting players or after some time in contact with any other surface, and also “stick” to it. Each weapon has its own reloading rate and the speed of the charge, which naturally divides them into classes familiar to us (for example: automatic, sniper rifle and grenade launcher).

It cannot be denied that Shootmania is very similar to Quake and the Unrealtournament series, because some modes, although different from the usual Deathmatch, Teamdeathmatch, CaptureTheflag, and T.D., but not so dramatically as not to be recognizable. Since Nadeo initially pleased us not only by the usual editor of cards, but also by the editor of scripts, which allows you to change literally any game mode, now it is possible to only highlight the basic regimes, from which some players have already made a lot of different and most often successful branches.

Royal: A regime that is very reminiscent of the standard Deathmatch, but with one pleasant addition. After the start of the round, players strive for the center of the map, where the spire is usually located (flag, control point, etc.e), which can be captured by any player, after which an energy dome is formed around the map, the diameter of which is constantly reduced, thereby reducing the size of the battlefield. At the end of the round, in the center of the cards the most agile and well -aimed players remain, who eventually resemble spiders in the bank and as in the analogy I only have the player, who wins the match. In general, the more the player survived, the more he receives points and raises his rank and place in the top of the players. I would like to note that this innovation does not allow the players on the nooks of the card and calmly fill frying players, which undoubtedly makes the process itself more dynamic and fast, which in turn does not allow the players who quickly “came out” from the struggle and expect their next respowed.

Battle Waves: It is difficult for me to personally identify this regime with the standard dedication of the point, but in general, these modes can be called similar. The ideology remains the same, only the number of capture points changes (and they are represented by high spiers, usually about four pieces) and the capture process itself. But not everything is so simple, since at first one team captures, and the other is defended, then the teams change places. The scheme is complicated by the fact that the attacking team is given only 15 seconds for the “beginning” of the attack, if the team did not reach hostile points (spiers), then the countdown is dumped to zero and the team is forced to defend itself from the same actions of the opponents. In another case, after 15 seconds, the countdown is also dumped to zero, but the attacking team is given time to complete the attack and the capture of control points.

Elite: You can briefly describe this mode as “three per one”. In reality, one of the players in the hands of the “rail” – the three others have ordinary “machine guns”. Further, the plot is simple and understandable – who whom. It is this mode, like Royal, Ubisoft wants to make free for all players.

Now about the more familiar modes to us:
Melee: Normal Deathmatch. The main difference is associated with the mechanics of the game, or rather – it is not the number of “spray” of the players (murders, to be completely accurate), and the hits – t.e, if you did not destroy your enemy, but only shot him half of the shield or “finished off” another player, then you will receive +1, which are counted in the general account. The hit from the “rails” immediately knocks down the entire shield and “spray” the opponent that throws you in the piggy bank +2 points.

Battle: This is the usual mode of commanding the points in which the players are divided into teams and try to take possession of flags on the map, which are also made in the form of “spiers” and filled with red or blue, depending on how much one or another participant in the battle will be near the flag. You need to stand very close, and it is not possible to stand especially because you need to constantly dodge the shells flying in you, which makes the game process alive and makes the players hone their capabilities.

Time Attack: Many readers clearly participated in this mode, and it represents a consistent “check” at several control points for speed. This can be seen in Gotham City Impostors (to obtain “aces” and additional experience points) and in many similar games.

Joust: This regime can be called a duel in which the players have a limited ammunition, which should be replenished in allocated places.

As I already said above, the players have the opportunity to edit standard scripts, making changes to their taste, that in conjunction with the editor of the cards (which is in itself in use) turns Shootmania Storm into a “gaming” creativity, where everyone can make the perfect regime for themselves and friends.

I would like to say something about the appearance of the game, but as practice shows, in online shooters in the first person this criterion is not so important in a general assessment. An example of this is both Quake and Counter-Strike, who, in terms of e-sports platforms, do not lose popularity in our time, when every second one played at least once, for example, in Battlefield or COD, in which the graphics sometimes struck even real connoisseurs, and “realism” has long reached a decent level. Personally my opinion is that
Shootmania directly “smells” in terms of graphics and appearance by previous Nadeo offspring, such as Trackmania 2, for example.

At the end I would like to note that I personally really like it and always liked the idea of ​​aligning the balance in the game due to changing game mechanics, as in the case of Shootmania. The lack of the possibility of “Donata” does not allow developers to fill his wallets so quickly with money, but pushes talented players to develop their capabilities, which in the light of e -sports development in our time cannot but rejoice. But for “medium” (to whom I reckon myself) players who do not want to spend a day online for the development of Skila, but simply try to relax after a working or school day – they will quickly get tired of the dullness and monotony of cards and will make the representatives of the genre, of which a huge number of even in the free segment will return to us already familiar to us. As a Quake III fan, it was easy to get used to it and understand what’s what, starting to increase the rating and fill frags, but over time, getting on more experienced players, it became clear that users who are accustomed to automatic health regeneration, raspberry jam on the screen after the cloth hit the tanks and jeeps, such a game will simply “not go”, and most likely “will scare off its requirements for the presence of basic battle skills. That is, in general, if the finished product is not very changed compared to the BETA version, then it will of course find its place on the Winchesters of the players and will be no less successful, like other products from Nadeo.
I did not want to evaluate the game in points or percentage, I only tried to express my opinion about the game that interested me at one time. And therefore I ask you to consider all of the above only my personal opinion.
